History

The UCC is a result of God being at work through a faithful community. It began with the dream to reach college students at OSU. God blessed this dream when the building located at 1655 NW Monroe could not be sold as more parking for the apartment complex. An unusual restriction on the deed said the property could only be used for religious purposes only. The elders at Circle Church of Christ heard about the building and purchased it for only $12,000 in 1967. The UCC began with two purposes: “1) to strengthen those who are already Christians, and 2) to help others know the Christ.” In 1975, Circle Church of Christ, hired the first campus minister, John Sullivan. God continued to bless this dream with the first baptism of Pam Semon, who later became the wife of Gregg Strawn, the current minister of Circle Church of Christ. The dream of the UCC continues today as a place where college students meet Jesus and grow as disciples.

To get the whole story of how Gregg Strawn, Dean Petty, Russ York, Wilson Parrish, and Jason Swick were able to be part of this dream with Circle Church of Christ, check out this paper.
